Digiledge Launches Forex Multicurrency, NHAI E-Notice and Credit Line on UPI Repayment
Summary
- At Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026, Digiledge powered three new Bharat Connect capabilities for Federal Bank and CSB Bank.
- Forex Multicurrency lets Federal Bank customers buy foreign currency, send overseas remittances and reload forex cards in six currencies, at live FX-Retail rates.
- NHAI E-Notice lets Federal Bank customers clear unpaid MLFF toll notices from their banking app, inside the 72-hour window before the fee doubles.
- Credit Line on UPI Repayment lets CSB Bank customers repay their UPI credit line through Bharat Connect, closing the credit loop on the same rails.
- All three run on the same Digiledge Bharat Connect infrastructure banks already use for utility and recurring bill payments, without any new integration build.
The Bill Payment Rail is Becoming a Banking Rail
Most banks still think of Bharat Connect as the place where customers just pay their electricity and phone bills.
At Global Fintech Fest 2026, that view started to look out of date. Held in Mumbai from 9 to 11 September 2026, GFF ran under the theme "Potential to Impact" - a shift from what new technology might do someday to what is already live for customers. 1
In line with this theme, Digiledge, a Mintoak company, unveiled three new capabilities at GFF 2026, each built on the Bharat Connect network and delivered in partnership with Federal Bank and CSB Bank:
- Forex Multicurrency for Federal Bank - cross-border payments in six currencies
- NHAI E-Notice for Federal Bank - settling unpaid highway tolls
- Credit Line on UPI Repayment for CSB Bank - closing the loop on UPI credit
This article looks at each launch, what problem it solves, and what it tells banks about where Bharat Connect is heading.
##1. Forex Multicurrency on Bharat Connect: From One Currency to Six
At GFF 2025, Digiledge powered the launch of FX Retail on Bharat Connect for Federal Bank, across its FedMobile and FedNet channels. 2 For the first time, Federal Bank customers could buy US Dollars at transparent market rates directly from their banking app. The first phase was a pilot that allowed individual customers to buy US Dollars. 3
Why Retail Forex Needed a Better Digital Journey
FX-Retail is an RBI-authorised online forex dealing platform, launched in 2019 and managed by CCIL. It allows customers to buy foreign currency at market-linked rates, with bank markups shown clearly. 4
Traditional forex journeys have several pain points: 4
- New customer onboarding could take 2 to 20 working days, as it depended on the relationship bank
- Customers often had to visit a branch with physical documents to complete a remittance
- Pricing rules and markups varied across banks, making rates hard to compare
- Many customers turned to non-bank forex providers, and banks lost these relationships
Bringing FX-Retail onto Bharat Connect addresses these issues by placing the full journey inside the banking apps customers already use.
What's New: Six Currencies on Bharat Connect
At GFF 2026, RBI Deputy Governor Rohit Jain introduced multicurrency capabilities for the forex category on Bharat Connect. Five currencies were added to the US Dollar: the Euro, British Pound, Canadian Dollar, Swiss Franc and UAE Dirham.4 Federal Bank was among the first banks to offer the service during the soft launch, with Digiledge being the technology service provider. 5 Digiledge FX Retail Multi Currency is now live with Federal Bank. Customers can view live rates for multiple currencies, choose the one they need and complete their purchase within the same digital banking journey. 6
What Banks Can Offer with Digiledge FX Retail
With Digiledge FX Retail, banks can offer their customers a complete digital forex service: 6
- Outward remittance for sending money abroad, such as for overseas tuition or family support
- Forex card issue and reload, completed digitally
- Currency notes for travel, collected from a branch or airport counter or delivered through an authorised partner
- Real-time rates and transparent bank markups across participating relationship banks
- Quick digital registration with PAN-based KYC, and orders booked in under two minutes
For banks, the platform offers configurable pricing and delivery rules, one integration for both mobile and internet banking, controlled settlement with daily reconciliation, and a choice of hosted or on-premises deployment. It runs on the same Digiledge Bharat Connect Bill Payments platform Federal Bank already uses for utility and recurring payments, so no separate forex system was required.
What It Means for Banks and Their Customers
Bharat Connect processed forex transactions worth INR 27.06 million across the whole of FY 2025-26.7 Between April and July 2026 alone, the figure crossed INR 100 million, even before multicurrency support was introduced. 7 Forex transactions are typically high in value and important to the customer. Whether someone is planning a trip, paying overseas tuition fees or supporting family abroad, they have usually turned to a branch, a money changer or a fintech app. With FX Retail Multi Currency, banks can keep these customers within their own digital channels, reduce branch visits and manual work, and build a stronger forex relationship over time.

2. NHAI E-Notice: Making Highway Toll Dues Easy to Settle
India is moving towards toll plazas without barriers. On 2 May 2026, NHAI launched the country's first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at the Chorasi toll plaza on the Surat-Bharuch section of NH-48. 8 The system has since been extended to NH-44 and the Delhi-Jaipur corridor.
With MLFF, vehicles pass through at normal speed and the toll is charged afterwards. If the FASTag payment does not go through, for example because of a low balance or an inactive tag, the vehicle owner receives an electronic notice (e-notice).9 To make these payments simpler, Digiledge delivered NHAI E-Notice on Bharat Connect for Federal Bank. It allows customers to handle toll dues the same way they handle any other bill:
- Pending e-notices can be fetched and paid through the payment apps customers already use
- Payment follows the familiar Bharat Connect bill payment journey, without the need to visit separate portals
- Customers can clear dues within the 72-hour window and avoid double charges or VAHAN restrictions
For banks, it creates a regular, time-sensitive reason for customers to use the banking app. It also fits naturally alongside FASTag recharges and other transport payments already available on Bharat Connect. Like the forex launch, it runs on the same Digiledge Bharat Connect Bill Payments platform, so it was added as a new biller category rather than a new integration.
3. Credit Line on UPI Repayment: Completing the Credit Journey
Credit Line on UPI (CLOU) is an NPCI product that enables banks to extend a pre-sanctioned credit line to customers, accessible directly through UPI at any merchant that accepts UPI payments, without requiring a separate app or card. 5 In effect, it lets a bank's existing credit customers spend against an approved limit the same way they would make any other UPI payment, without carrying a card or downloading a separate lending app.
To date, discussion of CLOU has largely focused on how customers draw down credit. At GFF 2026, NPCI extended CLOU to support repayment through Bharat Connect, and Digiledge delivered this capability for CSB Bank. 10 CSB Bank customers using Credit Line on UPI can now:
- Repay their outstanding credit line amount through Bharat Connect
- Use the same bill payment journey they already follow for utilities, loan EMIs and credit card bills
- Make repayments on time without needing to locate a repayment UPI ID or set up a separate mandate
Why a Simple Repayment Experience Matters
The success of any credit product depends on how easy it is to repay. When repayment is unclear or inconvenient, customers are more likely to miss due dates, which increases risk for the bank. By bringing CLOU repayment onto Bharat Connect, CSB Bank places the credit line due alongside every other bill its customers pay. This supports timely repayments and smoother collections, and keeps the complete credit journey, from approval to spending to repayment, on interoperable networks the bank manages. The capability runs on the same Digiledge Bharat Connect Bill Payments platform that CSB Bank already uses for utility and recurring payments.

The Bigger Picture: What These Launches Mean for Banks
Taken together, the three launches show a clear direction. Bharat Connect is no longer only a bill payment channel. It is becoming the network banks use for a wide range of payments their customers need to make.
None of these launches required a new technology build. Each was added as a new category on the platform the banks already use for utility and recurring bills. This is a key reason to choose the right BBPS platform provider for banks: when NPCI, NBBL or the RBI introduces a new category, banks that are already live can offer it to customers within weeks rather than months.
Keeping Customers Engaged in the Bank's Own App
Bharat Connect now has more than 22,000 live billers. 12 Each category a bank supports, whether electricity, insurance, FASTag, forex, tolls or credit repayment, gives customers another reason to use the bank's own app. Each category it does not support may lead customers to a third-party platform instead, where their payment habits can become difficult to win back.
How Digiledge Supports Banks on Bharat Connect
Digiledge is an NBBL and an NPCI-certified TSP. Its Bharat Connect Bill Payment API and white-labelled platform allow banks to operate as a Customer Operating Unit (COU), a Biller Operating Unit (BOU) or both, while keeping full control of their user interface and customer experience.¹⁷ The same platform also supports Bharat Connect B2B payments, CBDC (e₹) acceptance, Banking Connect and FX Retail so each new capability builds on the existing setup.
Digiledge has been among the first TSPs to go live on major Bharat Connect feature launches for four consecutive years.

Conclusion: Building on Bharat Connect for What Comes Next
GFF 2026 showed how quickly Bharat Connect is expanding beyond bill payments. Over three days, it added multicurrency forex, highway toll payments and consumer credit repayment.
The banks that went live with these services did not need to build something new for each one. They were already on a flexible, certified platform that allowed them to add each category as soon as it was introduced. Federal Bank and CSB Bank were able to launch because the foundation was already in place.
This approach will become more important over time. More currencies, more biller categories and more credit products are expected on Bharat Connect. Banks that treat the network only as a compliance requirement are likely to adopt each new category later, while their customers turn to other platforms in the meantime.
Banks that invest in the right foundation today can become the first choice for their customers' everyday payments, and be ready for whatever Bharat Connect offers next. If your bank is evaluating a Bharat Connect partner, get in touch with the Digiledge team.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is forex on Bharat Connect, and which currencies does it support?
Forex on Bharat Connect links the RBI-authorised FX-Retail platform to the Bharat Connect network, so customers can buy foreign currency at live market rates from their bank's app. It launched at GFF 2025 with the US Dollar. At GFF 2026, the RBI added the Euro, British Pound, Canadian Dollar, Swiss Franc and UAE Dirham, taking FX Retail multicurrency support to six currencies. Customers can buy currency, send overseas remittances and reload forex cards. Digiledge powers the technology for Federal Bank.
2. What is an NHAI e-notice, and how does paying it through Bharat Connect help?
An NHAI e-notice is issued when a FASTag toll payment fails on a Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) highway, for example due to low balance or an inactive tag. It must be paid within 72 hours, or the toll doubles. Unpaid notices beyond 15 days can lead to restrictions through VAHAN. With NHAI E-Notice on Bharat Connect, Federal Bank customers can make the NHAI e-notice payment from their banking app, using the same journey as any other bill, before the penalty applies.
3. What is Credit Line on UPI repayment?
Credit Line on UPI (CLOU) lets banks offer a pre-sanctioned credit line that customers spend through UPI. Until now, repayment mostly happened by paying a specific UPI ID or through AutoPay. At GFF 2026, NPCI extended CLOU repayment to Bharat Connect, and Digiledge delivered it for CSB Bank. Customers now repay their credit line through the same bill-payment journey they use for loan EMIs and credit card bills.
4. Do banks need a new integration for each new Bharat Connect category?
Not if they choose the right technology service partner. All three GFF 2026 launches ran on the Digiledge Bharat Connect infrastructure Federal Bank and CSB Bank already used for utility and recurring payments. New categories such as forex, NHAI-E notice and credit repayment were added on top, without a separate technology build. This is what lets early adopters go live as soon as a category opens.
5. What should banks look for in a Bharat Connect TSP ?
Start with certification: the partner should be NBBL and NPCI certified, so the bank is not exposed to compliance risk. Then check biller depth, support for both COU and BOU roles, and a clean Bharat Connect bill payment API that embeds into existing mobile and internet banking. Finally, look at track record, including how quickly the partner has gone live on new categories in the past. Digiledge has been among the first ones to go live on major Bharat Connect launches for four consecutive years.
